What We Do...
WHY WE CARE
HOW WE CARE
Renew the Spirit Foundation helps to heal the hearts of child survivors of war and terrorism through creative arts programs and arts and play therapy.
Therapeutic healing through dance, music, art and play helps children learn how to solve problems again using their natural and inner creativity and over time reduces their reliance on or expectation that violence is the answer to all problems.
Such creative healing – particularly in groups – also teaches children who have survived shocking and deep trauma how to relate again in a positive way with other children (and also adults) and that they have a valuable and worthy role to play in their communities.
The trauma faced by people of all ages who have witnessed or have been victims of or survived violent acts of war or terrorism is deep and long-lasting.
Children in particular suffer deep trauma which instills fear into their souls and leads to a loss of self-worth and even a mistrust of humanity itself. Nightmares, bed-wetting, inability to speak or communicate properly and learning that violence is the natural way to solve all issues are just some of the ways the trauma is manifested.
Renew the Spirit Foundation cares and helps child survivors of war and terrorist violence in order to support the children regain some faith and trust in humanity and thus grow resilience and renew faith in themselves as worthy human beings.
Helping children supports whole communities recover from deep trauma and leads to a reduction of the cycle of violence and the inter-generational manifestation of violence as the norm, the expected and the ordinary.
